ubertooth-one¶
2.4 GHz wireless development platform for Bluetooth monitoring
Vendor: Great Scott Gadgets
Status: supported — the identifiers and setup recipe are believed correct.
Not maintainer-verified: nobody on this project has run this hardware yet. The two facts are recorded separately on purpose (D-027) — a correct recipe and a tested device are different claims.
What it is¶
An open-source 2.4 GHz platform built for observing Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy, which ordinary Bluetooth adapters cannot do.
What you can do with it¶
Follow BLE connections, capture advertising traffic, and pipe results into Wireshark for analysis. spectools drives it as a raw 2.4 GHz spectrum sweep source too (its ubertooth_hw_u1.c matches 1d50:6002 and the old ffff:0004), a second use of the same hardware at no cost.
Setup¶
Install the packages, add yourself to plugdev, log out and back in. Run ubertooth-util -v to confirm the firmware version matches the host tools — a mismatch is the usual cause of confusing behaviour.
Known problems¶
Host tools and device firmware are versioned together and must match; Debian's ubertooth package and a device flashed elsewhere often disagree. Capture is best-effort by design — it is a monitoring platform, not a protocol analyser with guaranteed coverage.
How it identifies itself¶
| USB id | What | Confirmed | Node |
|---|---|---|---|
1d50:6002 |
Ubertooth One | yes | libusb |
1d50:6000 |
Ubertooth Zero | yes | libusb |
Access and permissions¶
Group membership required: plugdev — added at install, applies at next login.
The generated udev rule provides a /dev/ubertooth symlink, mode 0660, group plugdev.
