minino¶
Electronic Cats Minino — 802.15.4 and Zigbee analysis board
Vendor: Electronic Cats · class: badgelife
Status: supported — the identifiers and setup recipe are believed correct.
Maintainer-verified 2026-08-26 on Pop!_OS 22.04: Attached and enumerated; identifier, product string and serial captured with scripts/identify-device.sh. The radio side was not exercised and no firmware was flashed.
What it is¶
A compact ESP32-based board aimed at IEEE 802.15.4 and Zigbee work, from the same maker as CatSniffer.
What you can do with it¶
Capture and inspect 802.15.4 and Zigbee traffic, and run alternative firmware for specific tasks.
Setup¶
Flash with esptool and open a console with tio — the badgelife class this device joins provides both. Add yourself to dialout and plugdev, then log out and back in.
Known problems¶
Capture behaviour depends on which firmware variant is loaded. The USB identifier is confirmed by capture (303a:1001) — the shared ESP32-S3 USB-JTAG identifier, which is why it is carried as ambiguous rather than as a symlink source.
How it identifies itself¶
| USB id | What | Confirmed | Node |
|---|---|---|---|
303a:1001 |
Espressif ESP32-S3 native USB JTAG/serial peripheral | yes | serial |
⚠ 303a:1001 is not unique to this device (vendor_chip_default; also used by: clip-boy, free-wili-2, every ESP32-S3 or ESP32-C3 board using native USB). esptool calls 0x1001 USB_JTAG_SERIAL_PID, a constant of the ESP32-S3/C3 USB-serial-JTAG peripheral. Confirmed by three captures of three unrelated products -- this board, clip-boy, and the ESP32-S3 inside free-wili-2 -- all reporting the identical pair AND the identical product string. Only the serial differs, and a serial is per-unit.
Access and permissions¶
Group membership required: dialout, plugdev — added at install, applies at next login.
Software that makes it useful¶
esptool, minicom, screen, tio, wireshark
