Hardware

One page per catalogued device: what it is, how it identifies itself on USB, what permissions it needs, and what software makes it useful. Status and verified are separate columns on purpose (D-027): a correct setup recipe and a device someone here has actually run are different claims, and conflating them is how catalogs lie.

Device classes

Families with shared Linux needs; a device in a class inherits its rules and tooling.

  • badgelife — Conference badges and SAOs — serial console, flashing, and the USB bridges they use
  • bluetooth-controller — USB Bluetooth controllers — parked for power and radio silence, or switched off through BlueZ
  • camera — USB cameras, including a laptop's built-in webcam — parked when nobody is using them
  • dmr-radio — DMR handhelds being programmed over USB — codeplug read and write
  • gps-receiver — USB GNSS receivers — position for APRS and grid squares, and time for FT8
  • nfc-reader — PN53x-based NFC readers — the contactless equivalent of the badgelife class
  • programmer — In-circuit programmers and debug probes — JTAG, SWD, SPI flash, AVR and FPGA
  • rig — Transceivers with CAT or PTT control — one shared rigctld for every program
  • wwan-modem — Cellular modems (4G/5G WWAN cards) — parked from the CLI, a menu entry or the tray when the station is not using the network
