ubertooth¶
Host tools for the Ubertooth One Bluetooth sniffer
- Version recorded: 2020.12.R1
- Categories:
bluetooth - Upstream: https://github.com/greatscottgadgets/ubertooth
What it does¶
The host-side utilities for the Ubertooth One: spectrum monitoring across 2.4 GHz, and capture of Bluetooth Low Energy traffic to a file other tools can read.
Why you would want it¶
Bluetooth is one of the few common protocols an ordinary SDR handles badly -- it hops fast and wide -- and the Ubertooth is purpose-built for it. It is also one of the few pieces of RF-security hardware with a genuinely open design.
Before it will work¶
Ubertooth One hardware, its udev rules and group membership from the hardware catalog, and firmware matching the host tools.
How it installs¶
- apt:
ubertooth
Known problems¶
Host tools and device firmware are version-locked and a mismatch produces confusing failures rather than a clear error -- the single most common problem with this device. The three targets ship three different versions (Debian 13 2018.12.R1, Kali and Parrot 2020.12.R1), so the firmware you flash must match the tools your distribution gave you.
Keeping it current¶
- probe: apt policy
- strategy: apt_upgrade
