xcwcp

Qt Morse tutor that both sends practice and reads your keying

What it does

The graphical unixcw front end. It sends the same practice material as cwcp from a windowed interface, and it will also take keyboard input as a straight key or iambic paddle and show you the text your keying actually produced.

Why you would want it

The receive half is the reason to prefer it over cwcp. Reading back your own sending is the only cheap way to find out that your dashes are short or your inter-character spacing is collapsing, which is what makes otherwise good sending hard for other operators to copy.

Before it will work

A desktop session and a sound device. Paddle emulation uses the keyboard; no keyer hardware is required or supported.

How it installs

  • apt: xcwcp

Known problems

Keyboard-as-paddle inherits the keyboard's own repeat and debounce behaviour, so the timing it reports is approximate at high speed. AHRL installs this one from apt and none of the other unixcw front ends (inventory unit 37).

Keeping it current

  • probe: apt policy
  • strategy: apt_upgrade

Where to get help with the software itself
