tmux¶
Terminal multiplexer for sessions that outlive the connection
- Version recorded: 3.5a
- Categories:
workstation - Upstream: https://github.com/tmux/tmux
What it does¶
Splits one terminal into multiple panes and windows, and keeps them running after you disconnect so you can reattach later from anywhere.
Why you would want it¶
A station machine is frequently headless or reached over SSH from a laptop, and a long capture or a decode run should not die because the link dropped. It is the multiplexer to reach for; screen is carried alongside it only because other people's instructions name screen.
Before it will work¶
Nothing.
How it installs¶
- apt:
tmux
Known problems¶
Version differences change the configuration syntax between targets — Debian 13 and Parrot ship 3.5a, Kali ships 3.7b — so a config copied from a blog post may fail to parse. Nothing in this catalog ships a tmux config.
Keeping it current¶
- probe: apt policy
- strategy: apt_upgrade
