soapysdr-module-hackrf

SoapySDR driver module for HackRF hardware

What it does

A plugin for SoapySDR, the vendor-neutral SDR abstraction layer, that makes HackRF One and family usable through the generic SoapySDR interface.

Why you would want it

It is what lets one program drive many different radios. Software written against SoapySDR — CubicSDR, SDR++, GQRX, gr-osmosdr and a great deal else — reaches HackRF hardware through this module rather than through a HackRF-specific code path, so installing it is usually the difference between an application listing your radio and showing an empty device list.

Before it will work

The underlying HackRF library and udev rules — see the hackrf-one entry in the hardware catalog — plus SoapySDR itself, which apt pulls in.

How it installs

  • apt: soapysdr-module-hackrf

Known problems

A SoapySDR module and its underlying library are versioned together and a mismatch shows up as a device that is not listed rather than as an error. SoapySDRUtil --info reports which modules loaded and is the first thing to check when a radio is invisible.

Keeping it current

  • probe: apt policy
  • strategy: apt_upgrade
