soapysdr-module-audio¶
SoapySDR driver module for sound-card SDRs and Airspy HF hardware

What it does¶
Presents an ordinary audio input as a SoapySDR device, so a receiver whose IQ output is a stereo pair on a sound card can be used by SoapySDR software. The module also carries support for hardware that pairs an audio IQ path with USB tuning control.
Why you would want it¶
A large family of homebrew and kit receivers -- the SoftRock line and its descendants -- produce quadrature audio and nothing else. Without this they are invisible to modern SDR software; with it they behave like any other device.
Before it will work¶
A sound card capable of stereo input at the sample rate the receiver needs, and correct channel assignment: swapped I and Q mirrors the spectrum, which is a real and confusing failure.
How it installs¶
- apt:
soapysdr-module-audio
Known problems¶
Sound-card SDRs have no way to report their tuning frequency, so the software cannot know where it is listening -- that offset is configuration, not discovery. Consumer sound cards clip and roll off at the edges of their range, so the usable bandwidth is narrower than the sample rate suggests.
Keeping it current¶
- probe: apt policy
- strategy: apt_upgrade
