qflipper

Desktop companion for the Flipper Zero — firmware, files, and CLI over USB

What it does

The official Qt desktop application for the Flipper Zero: it updates the device firmware, browses and transfers files on its SD card, and exposes the Flipper's serial CLI. It also ships 42-flipperzero.rules, the udev rule that grants access to the Flipper's normal and DFU modes — which is how this device reached the catalog at all, through the archive-wide udev sweep.

Why you would want it

It is the normal, supported way to manage a Flipper from a computer, and the one that keeps firmware and the qFlipper version aligned. dfu-util covers bare firmware recovery when a device is stuck in DFU, but it does not manage files or track releases; qFlipper is the everyday tool and dfu-util is the recovery hatch.

Before it will work

A Flipper Zero, and membership of dialout and plugdev — the same groups the flipper-zero hardware entry requests. The shipped udev rule handles the permissions once you are in those groups.

How it installs

  • apt: qflipper

Known problems

Packaged and identical across all four targets at 1.3.3 (apt-cache policy on Debian 13, Kali, Parrot and Ubuntu 26.04, 2026-08-28; Ubuntu carries the -build1 rebuild). ModemManager can grab the Flipper's serial port for about twenty seconds on many desktops, which looks like a dead device; the udev rule's ModemManager-ignore tag is the fix.

Keeping it current

  • probe: apt policy
  • strategy: apt_upgrade
