miri-sdr

Command-line tools for Mirics-based receivers

What it does

Tools built on libmirisdr-4 for receivers using Mirics MSi2500 and MSi001 silicon -- tuning, sample capture to a file, and streaming over a pipe -- without the vendor's own closed driver.

Why you would want it

Mirics silicon appears in a number of inexpensive wideband receivers whose vendor support on Linux is either closed-source or absent. This is the open path to them, and it is what this catalog's soapysdr-module-mirisdr and libmirisdr4 entries build on.

Before it will work

Mirics-based hardware and USB access to it -- a udev rule rather than root.

How it installs

  • apt: miri-sdr

Known problems

Devices using this silicon vary a great deal in what else is on the board, and a device that enumerates may still not tune correctly. SDRplay's own receivers use Mirics parts but ship a proprietary API, and this library is not a substitute for it -- that is the most common misunderstanding here. The maintainer owns none of this hardware (D-027).

Keeping it current

  • probe: apt policy
  • strategy: apt_upgrade
