kappanhang¶
Opens an Icom network radio as an ordinary sound card and serial port
- Version recorded: 1.3
- Categories:
rig-control - Upstream: https://github.com/nonoo/kappanhang
What it does¶
Connects to a network-capable Icom transceiver over its own IP protocol and presents the radio's audio as a PulseAudio device and its serial stream as a virtual serial port on your machine. Programs then use the remote radio exactly as if it were plugged in.
Why you would want it¶
It makes remote operating transparent to everything else. Rather than each program needing to understand Icom's network protocol, fldigi, WSJT-X and a logger see a sound card and a serial port, and none of them has to know the radio is elsewhere. That is a much better shape than per-application remote support.
Before it will work¶
A network-capable Icom radio -- IC-705, IC-7610, IC-9700 and similar -- with its network settings enabled and a user and password configured on the radio. A route to it.
How it installs¶
- apt:
kappanhang
Known problems¶
Audio over an unreliable link produces dropouts that look like propagation, which matters when you are judging a weak signal. Only one client can hold the radio's network session at a time, so this and wfview cannot both be connected. The radio's own credentials are the only authentication between a network and your transmitter; treat exposing it as the decision it is.
Keeping it current¶
- probe: apt policy
- strategy: apt_upgrade
