gtk-meshtastic-client

Desktop GUI for Meshtastic nodes

What it does

A GTK application for talking to a Meshtastic node — one of the LoRa mesh radios that relay short text messages between handhelds with no infrastructure — covering messaging, the node list, and basic configuration, without the command line.

Why you would want it

It is the packaged desktop client, which is a better first experience than the CLI for reading messages and watching who is on the mesh.

Before it will work

A Meshtastic node on USB and dialout membership. The python3-meshtastic package is the more capable route for configuration.

How it installs

  • apt: gtk-meshtastic-client

Known problems

Versions diverge across targets (1.2 on Debian and Parrot, 1.4 on Ubuntu 26.04, 1.5 on Kali — apt-cache policy, 2026-08-28) and it tracks upstream firmware less closely than the Python client does.

Keeping it current

  • probe: apt policy
  • strategy: apt_upgrade
