gdal-bin¶
GDAL's command-line tools for rasters and elevation data
- Version recorded: 3.10.3
- Categories:
navigation-maps - Upstream: https://gdal.org/
What it does¶
The Geospatial Data Abstraction Library's programs: gdalinfo to inspect a raster, gdalbuildvrt to join tiles into one virtual raster, gdal_contour to trace contour lines from elevation, gdal_rasterize to draw vector data onto a raster, gdaldem for hillshade and slope, and many more.
Why you would want it¶
It is how dem-qmapshack turns the elevation tiles into QMapShack's elevation and contour map, and the standard way to look inside any elevation or map raster yourself.
Before it will work¶
None of its own; the tiles come from dem-copernicus.
How it installs¶
- apt:
gdal-bin
Known problems¶
gdal_contour writes into an existing output file rather than refusing it (measured on 3.10.3), so a contour file left from an earlier run is appended to; dem-qmapshack removes its own before each run.
Keeping it current¶
- probe: apt policy
- strategy: apt_upgrade
