cwcp

Curses Morse tutor — unixcw with a menu instead of a command line

What it does

A full-screen terminal program that sends practice material — random characters, words, callsigns, or text you type — while letting you change speed, tone and grouping from a menu as it runs.

Why you would want it

It is the middle ground between the scriptable cw and the graphical xcwcp: interactive enough to adjust mid-session, and usable over SSH on a headless machine, which xcwcp is not.

Before it will work

A sound device and a terminal. Nothing else.

How it installs

  • apt: cwcp

Known problems

Shares the unixcw timing engine, so the same load-related stutter applies. The menu keys are not the ones a vi or emacs user expects; the help screen is the fastest way past that.

Keeping it current

  • probe: apt policy
  • strategy: apt_upgrade

Where to get help with the software itself
