cutesdr

Small demodulator and spectrum display for networked receivers

What it does

Displays a spectrum and waterfall and demodulates AM, FM, SSB and CW from an RFSPACE networked receiver or a compatible sample stream. It was written as a demonstration of the DSP techniques as much as a program to use, and the source is correspondingly readable.

Why you would want it

Two reasons and they pull in different directions. If you have RFSPACE hardware -- SDR-IQ, SDR-IP, NetSDR -- it is a direct client. If you do not, it is one of the clearest worked examples of receiver DSP in C++ that exists, which is a different kind of useful.

Before it will work

RFSPACE hardware or a compatible stream. It does not speak SoapySDR, so it will not open an arbitrary dongle.

How it installs

  • apt: cutesdr

Known problems

Narrow hardware support is the main limit and it is by design. The project has not moved in a long time; Qt has moved several times underneath it. For general SDR listening on ordinary hardware, gqrx or SDR++ are the right tools and this is not.

Keeping it current

  • probe: apt policy
  • strategy: apt_upgrade
