cutecom

A graphical serial terminal, Qt-native and simple

What it does

CuteCom: a Qt graphical serial terminal with a line-oriented input, hex view, and logging.

Why you would want it

The lighter GUI alternative to PuTTY for pure serial work -- no SSH baggage, a clean device/speed picker, and a send-file feature useful for pushing config to a TNC.

Before it will work

Access to the serial device -- membership of the dialout group, which the workstation profile arranges. A programming cable or rig data port.

How it installs

  • apt: cutecom

Known problems

Serial only, by design. Needs dialout.

Keeping it current

  • probe: apt policy
  • strategy: apt_upgrade

Where to get help with the software itself

The CuteCom project on GitLab.
