claws-mail

The fast, plain-text-first mail client AHRL shipped

What it does

Claws Mail: a lightweight, keyboard-friendly client with strong plain-text handling and a plugin system.

Why you would want it

AHRL's choice for the NBEMS menu, and the lightest full client here — plain-text-first suits radio traffic, and it starts instantly on a Pi-class machine. In the packet/Winlink workflow, messages fetched by PAT land in a local mailbox; a mail client is how a human reads and writes them.

Before it will work

Nothing radio-side. To wire it to Winlink, point it at PAT's mailbox or use PAT's own web UI alongside it -- the packet profile's documentation covers the workflow.

How it installs

  • apt: claws-mail

Known problems

The interface is dated by modern standards; that is also why it is fast.

Keeping it current

  • probe: apt policy
  • strategy: apt_upgrade
